Few things are as disappointing as a beautiful fragrance that fades by lunchtime. The good news: how long a scent lasts has as much to do with how you apply it as with the perfume itself. A few simple habits will keep yours alive from morning to night.
Start with moisturised skin
Fragrance clings to oil, so hydrated skin holds a scent far longer than dry skin. Apply an unscented moisturiser (or a matching body lotion) first, then your perfume on top. This single step can dramatically extend wear.
Target your pulse points
Spray where the body is warmest — the wrists, neck, behind the ears, and the inner elbows. Natural heat at these points gently diffuses the fragrance throughout the day.
Don’t rub — and a few more tricks
- Never rub your wrists together. It crushes the delicate top notes and makes the scent fade faster. Spray, then let it settle.
- Mist hair and clothing lightly — fabric and hair hold fragrance beautifully (test on clothes first to avoid marks).
- Layer for depth. Carry a 50 ml for a midday refresh, or build with a matching body product.
Store it properly
Heat, light, and humidity break a fragrance down over time. Keep your bottles in a cool, dark place — a drawer or cupboard, not a sunny bathroom shelf — and they will smell as intended for far longer. Treat your perfume well, and it will return the favour all day.
